Comparing additive manufacturing processes for distributed manufacturing

نویسندگان

چکیده

Additive manufacturing (AM) has been considered for distributed manufacturing. However, the consideration usually concerned AM in general, not specific processes. This paper will look at properties of different processes from perspective process and materials, post-processing, requirements devices spaces, raw materials. The findings show that powder bed fusion binder jetting pose challenges material extrusion (MEX) can be affordable a form. It would ideal option when demand parts is low. VAT photopolymerization similarities to MEX but slightly more expensive demanding post-processing phase. it scaled up higher production rates higher.

Hyperelastic Modeling of Rubber-Like Photopolymers for Additive Manufacturing Processes

This chapter addresses design issues of components realized with rubber-like PhotoPolymers (PP) recently introduced in Rapid Prototyping. In particular, the determination of accurate, hyperelastic, constitutive models which describe the PP behavior is discussed in detail. In fact, Stereolithography and Polyjet processes allow the production of highly flexible objects by using photosensitive res...

Designing heterogeneous porous tissue scaffolds for additive manufacturing processes

A novel tissue scaffold design technique has been proposed with controllable heterogeneous architecture design suitable for additive manufacturing processes. The proposed layer-based design uses a bi-layer pattern of radial and spiral layer consecutively to generate functionally gradient porosity, which follows the geometry of the scaffold. The proposed approach constructs the medial region fro...

Implicit modeling for additive manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology distinguishes itself from more traditional fabrication processes by several significant factors. It allows the creation of objects with complex geometry that would not be possible by subtractive manufacturing or molding. Additionally, 3d printers are of much simpler use than other tools. Finally, since the cost per objects does not change depending on the ...

Topology Optimization for Additive Manufacturing

This paper gives an overview of the issues and opportunities for the application of topology optimization methods for additive manufacturing (AM). The main analysis issues discussed are: how to achieve the maximum geometric resolution to allow the fine features easily manufacturable by AM to be represented in the optimization model; the manufacturing constraints to be considered, and the workfl...

Sustainability Characterization for Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing (AM) has the potential to create geometrically complex parts that require a high degree of customization, using less material and producing less waste. Recent studies have shown that AM can be an economically viable option for use by the industry, yet there are some inherent challenges associated with AM for wider acceptance. The lack of standards in AM impedes its use fo...
